University of Iowa international studies and economics student Ryann Hubbart has been awarded a 2022 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study in Amman, Jordan, this summer for an intensive Arabic language program.

Students enrolled in IS instructor Peter Gerlach's course "Community Engaged Learning with Refugees and Immigrants in Iowa" are partnering with the Catherine McCauley Center in Cedar Rapids to provide educational lectures, editorials, and other outreach to educate eastern Iowans on the experiences of local immigrant and refugee populations.

International Studies Grad Hannah Huisman Helps Increase Reach of Youth Leadership Program

Working as an intern at Global Ties Iowa, International Studies graduate Hannah Huisman (Class of 2021) is helping to further develop and implement the organization’s Youth Leadership Program. Activities include connecting international and domestic students in the community through inclusive marketing content, informal dinners, country reports, and online coursework. Hannah is a member of the 2022 Emerging Leaders cohort at Global Ties U.S., which is a non-partisan, non-profit organization based in Washington D.C.
