The University of Iowa Center for Human Rights is offering several opportunities for student funding that may be of note for International Studies students. Details from UICHR are below.

Kenneth J. Cmiel funding for summer internships

The UI Center for Human Rights, with support from International Programs and the Stanley-University of Iowa Foundation Support Organization, invites students to apply for Kenneth J. Cmiel funding to support rights-related summer internships. Students may use the funding to help pay for housing, transportation, food, and incidental expenses. This year, the Center will award $10,000 to support UI undergraduate, graduate, and professional students experiential learning endeavors. The application deadline is April 8, 2022 (5:00 pm CT). Anne Frank Writing Contest

The University of Iowa Center for Human Rights and the Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing invite UI undergraduates to reflect on and speak out about the legacy of Anne Frank, and her relationship to human rights protection and promotion, through the submission of essays, poetry or creative writing pieces. A distinguished committee from the writing community on campus and the Center for Human Rights will review the submissions and select a winner for recognition at the sapling planting ceremony on April 29. The winner will receive travel support to visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.! The submission deadline is April 15, 2022.

Weston Essay Contest

Each spring, the UI Center for Human Rights hosts the Weston Essay Contest. Essays must address a human rights issue. The contest is open to all undergraduate, graduate, and professional students enrolled at any college or university in the state of Iowa. The best essay by an undergraduate is recognized with a $750 award and the graduate/professional student recipient receives $1000. The submission deadline is May 13, 2022 (5:00 CST).
