Students complete an approved experiential learning activity (credit or noncredit), such as study abroad or related volunteer work, along with two required courses. They also submit an international studies essay during their last year. Students interested in choosing program option C should speak with the international studies advisor about procedures for the option.

Writing Project Requirements

Students completing the experiential learning activity writing project essay must do the following:

  • Submit the experiential learning activity online approval form. Possible experiential learning activities include: service learning courses, internships, volunteer positions with non-profit organizations, study abroad, or leadership in a student organization.
  • Enroll in IS:3020 - Writing Project in International Studies (for 0 s.h.) in MyUI, with the International Studies Program faculty director during the semester in which the experiential learning writing project essay will be submitted.
  • Complete an essay (minimum of 5 pages, double-spaced) explaining how a specific concept, skill or insight from IS:2009 - World Travel or IS:3010 - Designing an International Studies Project has helped with understanding and learning from a specific experience from study abroad or another experiential learning activity.   • Complete the online submission form, and submit a final draft of the essay to the IS:3020 - Writing Project in International Studies ICON site. Students must submit their experiential learning activity writing project essay to the International Studies Program after they complete their coursework, but before 11:59 pm on the Friday before finals week during the session in which they plan to graduate.
