Lauren Salloum, a fourth year student in International Studies, has been awarded a $2,500 Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates (ICRU) fellowship for Summer 2021 to work with Dr. Michael Žmolek in commencing work on an edited collection of primary source documents on the history of capitalism. Dr. Žmolek has signed a contract with Routledge publishers to produce a four volume collection under the title ‘Capitalism and Industrialization in the Long-Nineteenth Century: Sources and Documents’. The work will focus on Europe’s long nineteenth century, the work will first draw upon sources exemplifying ‘capitalistic’ economic arrangements Italy, Spain, Holland, Germany and England, setting up a contrast with sources from England, where an ‘agrarian capitalism’ preceded the first Industrial Revolution.
